On the 2nd of May, a group of 53 students from the Pujivae Secondary High School spent a full day visiting the TAGU forest and marine conservation project in Boeboe, South Choiseul. From 24 to 28 October a forest management and FSC certification workshop was organized for members of the Boeboe community in Choiseul. At the same time NRDF launched its new saw milling services for FSC members that are part of NRDF’s group certification programme. Through sustainable forest management, NRDF is actively working with Choiseul and Western communities to set up sawmilling businesses through infrastructure, training and networking. This type of timber harvesting is much more sustainable for the communities than logging. In the Choiseul Province NRDF is working with the Boeboe community to set aside 2000ha to become a national park, to protect this land from destructive land use. In November 2012, a five-year agreement was signed with NRDF to support the establishment of the Guerre National Park.
