As part of its climate change/REDD+  programme, NRDF has signed an agreement with Live & Learn to collaborate in developing two pilot projects in Choiseul Province. The project, which is funded by GIZ , aims to introduce activities that are part of the so-called Nakau programme. Succesful SFM workshop in Sasamunga (Choiseul)

From 2-6 December, a workshop was held in Sasamunga village (Choiseul) on sustainable forest management and FSC™ certification. The workshop was organized and facilitated by SPC (Secretariat of Pacific Communities) and NRDF. Representatives of six tribal communities in Choiseul (Chivoko, Sirebe, Gorabara, Rarakisi, Boeboe, Voza) joined the workshop to learn more about SFM, FSC™ certification and Forest conservation. Sustainable Sawmilling

Through sustainable forest management, NRDF is actively working with Choiseul and Western communities to set up sawmilling businesses through infrastructure, training and networking. This type of timber harvesting is much more sustainable for the communities than logging.
